The CEO doesn’t need to have all the answers. In fact, if the team is supporting the leader the way it should, the CEO should actually know the LEAST in the room.
The CMO should know all of the details on marketing, the COO on operations, and the product managers about the products. The CEO is the problem solver who asks the right questions, learns about the challenges of the situations, highlights areas that need attention, and helps the team make decisions that are in-line with the long-term strategy and vision. Given the complexity and challenges of building a business at scale, if the CEO knows more than his or her team then it’s a red flag that the team needs to step up and authority should be delegated.
